Lion Sands Game Reserveere sleeping off what seemed like a substantial meal. Soon the sun came out and the pride stood up and walked straight into the water, they first drank and then lay down. This behaviour is extremely uncommon in lions but it seems this pride is different, it is the third time we have seen them do this in recent times and it seems they are just as at home in water as they are on land.
今天来到lion sands的查尔狮群在河里喝水后躺了下来，对于狮子来说是一个极其罕见的情景，这是我们近年来第三次看到它们这样做了，似乎陆地和水里对于它们都像是一样没有区别！

Kirkman's Kamp Private Game Reserve the morning's goings on in the lodge with great curiosity before heading down to the Sand River. The younger male of the Eyrefield coalition found them on the water's edge and after staring at each other for 10-15 minutes, he gave chase from about 150m away, sending the Charlestons heading south into the property. The Schotia female and cub were up a jackalberry tree between the lodge and the workshop with an impala kill with the hyenas circling below. The Rollercoaster female and her cub were also on an impala kill, spending the morning frolicking on a termite mound in the early morning light. And just to cap things off nicely, the wild dogs were found relaxing around the golf course, before chasing after some impala... Let's see what this afternoon brings!
今天solo与克莱欧发现了在水边的查尔狮群，盯着对方大约10-15分钟后，他们开始追逐查尔狮群，最后查尔狮群逃到了营地的南边！

It appeared the three individuals were following a large herd of buffalo on two occasions. Charlestons vs Buffalo
This morning we found the Charlestons hunting buffalo in the southern part of Kirkmans, tables turned pretty quickly when the buffalo turned and stampeded towards the Charlestons. These two boys tried to retreat to multiple termite mound for safety but were driven off each time by the buffalo.In the end the escaped and all joined up and headed strait to the sand river for a drink. The Charleston Pride have been in the East, the Sand River males were in and around the lodge but there's a buzz around the lodge because of the arrival of 2 of the biggest male lions we've ever seen. These boys are apparently from the Doispane area in Kruger National Park and are referred to as the 'Matasaka Males'. They are confident, cocky and on a mission. We can't wait to see what this might mean for the lion dynamics in the area.

Kirkman's Kamp Private Game Reservethroughout the morning. Elsewhere Schotia's daughter was found playing in the Msuthu river but the find of the morning came quite late. After some excellent tracking by Joram Mnisi and Eckson Sithole the Charleston Pride was found on a sub-adult giraffe kill. We can't wait to see the amazing viewing we're going to have around this carcass over the next few days. JP

An absolute chaotic lion afternoon on Kirkman's Kamp. No less than 26 lions, yes twenty six, were found this afternoon!!
We found the Sand River males on a buffalo kill no too far from the lodge as they were gorging their way into the evening.
Elsewhere the Charleston Pride were found feeding on a Kudu kill. 11 members of the Southern Pride (5 adult females and 6 cubs) were found lazing away close to the Sabie River and then another 9 members of the Southern Pride were found in the far west. Crazy Saturday afternoon in the bush!

'So some big news for the charlestons, or atleast for me its big news!! 2 days ago they killed a buffalo daga boy in the sand river infront of the lodge (Umkumbe) the males did most of the work. Today they left the kill, all 3 of them obviously very full and happy they seemed to have walked off with a new found confidence as the 2 males started vocalising loudly as they faded into the night. The males have been scent marking heavily over the last 24 hours and have also been paying A Lot of attention to the very playful female.... im sure that you can all put the pieces of this puzzle together! - it apears that she may be coming into estrus and that the males are posibly feeling that they are strong and confident enough to father her cubs...'

The game viewing at Kirkman's Kamp has been off the charts as usual. Yesterday the crisp morning air brought a couple of surprises along. We found the Charleston Pride on a giraffe kill, Xovonekela male leopard patrolling his territory close by and the sighting of the morning happened a mere 200 meters from the lodge itself.
The pack of 5 African Wild dogs (alpha female is with the pups in the den) were found moving along the river close to Kirkman's Kamp when they came upon 3 leopards up a tree! The dogs soon lost interest in the leopards and moved on. When we identified the leopards, it was the Rollercoaster female, her 19 month old daughter and an unidentified young male leopard. The 2 females were hissing and hitting at the male from the top of a marula tree while the male was trying to get to them. The male managed to dislodge the Rollercoaster female from the branch and she came hurtling to the ground. A massive fight ensued on the ground before the Rollercoaster female managed to get back up the tree. Everything settled down shortly thereafter with the male leopard moving east and the 2 females running westwards. The Rollercoaster female was sporting some deep cuts on her front left shoulder and right hind leg, aswell as a cut on her stomach. The daughter seemed to be unarmed.
In the afternoon the Charleston Pride of lions were still on the giraffe and the Kwela Kwela female leopard was hunting in the nearby vacinity.
This morning we found the Schotia female in the western parts o the reserve, the Charleston Pride was in the same area and Kwela Kwela was found again patrolling.

"I came home to some good news from Brendan at Mala Mala....please read it all. ..update for this afternoon.
Marthly Male lion was seen hunting buffalo last nite not too far off the Fourways Pride. Fourways Pride was found this morning looking well fed - no Marthly Male. He was looking in fantastic condition though. All three of the Charleston Pride were found today and the Styx Pride made a welcome return also - they were feeding on a buffalo kill. Lions galore at the moment!"

As I write this post they can be heard roaring not too far from the lodge. Will she rejoin the males from the Charleston Pride after mating? Or will she stick around and spend more and more time in the presence of the Sand River male lions? Only time will tell.这是一个交配的季节，查尔斯顿的母狮与一只沙河雄狮忙于交配，在我写这条帖子的时候，它们在离营地不远处的吼叫声仍然能够被听到，在交配之后这头母狮还会继续和查尔斯顿狮群呆在一起吗，还是她会花更多的时间和沙河雄狮在一起？只有时间能说明一切。图一应该是沙河雄狮！

On the topic of mating, we are very glad to announce that the Charleston pride lioness is busy mating with one of the Sand River/Hilda's Rock male lions. As I write this post they can be heard roaring not too far from the lodge. Will she rejoin the males from the Charleston Pride after mating? Or will she stick around and spend more and more time in the presence of the Sand River male lions? Only time will tell.

What an AWESOME bush walk this morning!! Plenty of buffalo AND the charlston pride of lions who where very interested in us! Watched them for ages through a thicket and then bumped them again in an open area, absolutely the best possible lion sighting one could have on foot!
