'So some big news for the charlestons, or atleast for me its big news!! 2 days ago they killed a buffalo daga boy in the sand river infront of the lodge (Umkumbe) the males did most of the work. Today they left the kill, all 3 of them obviously very full and happy they seemed to have walked off with a new found confidence as the 2 males started vocalising loudly as they faded into the night. The males have been scent marking heavily over the last 24 hours and have also been paying A Lot of attention to the very playful female.... im sure that you can all put the pieces of this puzzle together! - it apears that she may be coming into estrus and that the males are posibly feeling that they are strong and confident enough to father her cubs...'

Kirkman's Kamp Private Game Reserve
The game viewing at Kirkman's Kamp has been off the charts as usual. Yesterday the crisp morning air brought a couple of surprises along. We found the Charleston Pride on a giraffe kill, Xovonekela male leopard patrolling his territory close by and the sighting of the morning happened a mere 200 meters from the lodge itself.
The pack of 5 African Wild dogs (alpha female is with the pups in the den) were found moving along the river close to Kirkman's Kamp when they came upon 3 leopards up a tree! The dogs soon lost interest in the leopards and moved on. When we identified the leopards, it was the Rollercoaster female, her 19 month old daughter and an unidentified young male leopard. The 2 females were hissing and hitting at the male from the top of a marula tree while the male was trying to get to them. The male managed to dislodge the Rollercoaster female from the branch and she came hurtling to the ground. A massive fight ensued on the ground before the Rollercoaster female managed to get back up the tree. Everything settled down shortly thereafter with the male leopard moving east and the 2 females running westwards. The Rollercoaster female was sporting some deep cuts on her front left shoulder and right hind leg, aswell as a cut on her stomach. The daughter seemed to be unarmed.
In the afternoon the Charleston Pride of lions were still on the giraffe and the Kwela Kwela female leopard was hunting in the nearby vacinity.
This morning we found the Schotia female in the western parts o the reserve, the Charleston Pride was in the same area and Kwela Kwela was found again patrolling.

"I came home to some good news from Brendan at Mala Mala....please read it all. ..update for this afternoon.
Marthly Male lion was seen hunting buffalo last nite not too far off the Fourways Pride. Fourways Pride was found this morning looking well fed - no Marthly Male. He was looking in fantastic condition though. All three of the Charleston Pride were found today and the Styx Pride made a welcome return also - they were feeding on a buffalo kill. Lions galore at the moment!"

As I write this post they can be heard roaring not too far from the lodge. Will she rejoin the males from the Charleston Pride after mating? Or will she stick around and spend more and more time in the presence of the Sand River male lions? We spent a very cold morning with the Charleston Pride this morning. They were found walking along the banks of the Sand River very close to Kirkman's Kamp itself. The two young males are looking as amazing as always. The female however, was sporting a nasty cut on the inside of her right leg. We're sure she'll make a quick recovery. Whoop whoop! Charlston pride stalking buffalo, ON FOOT! - day is made.
Something big rushing through the river!! Once again the shrill calls of the oxpeckers could be heard in the distance, this time coming from the direction of the sand river. "Buffalo" i whisper to my guests. "Lots of them" we change our heading back east toward the commotion, the bank of the river ahead is about 2 metres high so well be safe. Once we reach the near bank we climb out onto a fallen knob thorn tree and are greeted by the most amazing and special scene I have ever witnessed...... the charleston pride of lions, 2males 1female sitting with their backs to us over looking a huge herd of blissfully un aware buffalo...with shivers of excitement running down my spine I signal the guests to stay dead still as we observed 2 of the most powerful carnivores and herbivores in nature. My day had been made and its not even 830am!!

Some serious lion conflict was what met Kirkman’s Kamp rangers and guests this morning on game drive. Loud roars led us to the Charleston pride hot on the heels of the remaining Eyerfield male lion. The 2 Charleston male lions showed immense confidence and bravery as they followed and chased the more experienced lion towards the Kruger National Park. My luck continues!!! After an 8 day drought of cats, I've been on a roll finding our elusive predators. With only two guests on my vehicle (as 3 opted to sleepin and 4 opted for a bush walk), I headed out solo (no tracker) on the reserve. After travelling down the road for a little while, impalas began to alarm call, where out of nowhere, hyena came out of the thicket, walked towards the vehicle and dashed off in the same direction from where it came. I started the car, and again out of the thicket, two young lions began to parallel us on the road. I stopped the vehicle, and both crossed onto the road, stopped and sat gazing Southward. They then proceed off road, where I followed and where they eventually led us to a lioness. All three proceeded onto a secondary road where I was quick to follow but would eventually loose them in a drainage line. I anticipated their travels Eastward and decided to make a plan and stick to it. I backtracked, went around our large clearing and proceeded in the direction where I thought they would surface. Low and behold, all three were lazing in the sun, exactly in the area I knew they would emerge. My guests were beyond thrilled as I stationed the vehicle a mere 5 meters from the lions. The lighting was perfect and for once, I actually had my camera with me. Enjoy the pic gang!!! I know I enjoyed this sighting immensely.

The Charleston female feeding on a buffalo kill....
One can only guess what happened last night but what we do know is the Charleston female was found on a buffalo kill with one of the Fourways males, who was sporting some battle wounds on the right side of the face. Not long after, the Charleston female left to go look for the two Charleston males. She was found again lying in the river calling for the boys. Moments later the two Charleston males were seen chasing the Fourways male off the kill, to which they returned to feast on the buffalo. Later on the Fourways male found his brother keeping a close eye on the Charleston female as she was enjoying a cool down in the river. Will the Charlesons males and the Fourway males meet up again this afternoon? Only time will tell. ~

Kirkman*s Kamp Private Game Reserve Just an update regarding the buffalo kill. Soon after chasing one of the Fourways males off the buffalo carcass yesterday morning, the Charleston males were seen walking in front of Kirkman*s Kamp lodge. The only conclusion we can make is that the Fourways males combined their forces once again to push the 2 younger Charleston males off the kill.
When we arrived at the sighting in the evening there were no males at the carcass. Intead, the Charleston lioness was happily feeding on the big buffalo bull. After gorging herself for a while she started calling. Her calls were answered by the 2 Fourways males and they soon joined her on the buffalo.
With baited breath and an air of anticipation dangling on tea deck, we set out to see what had transpired in the night. A combination of disappointment and anti-climax was felt when we found that the buffalo carcass had been abandoned and the lions had moved off for now. We*ll keep you up to date if there is any change this afternoon. ~ JP Joubert ~

Kirkman's Kamp Private Game Reserve
This morning left guests and rangers speechless.
After hearing lions roaring through the night, two of the Sand river males were tracked down to where they were walking towards a nearby waterhole.在吼叫了一晚后，两只沙河雄狮被发现在水坑旁散步
Not long after more lion tracks were found. After spending time on foot tracking these animals, the alarm calls of impala were heard off in the distance. That's when the unmistakable sound of lions killing a buffalo was heard. After rushing off to the area where the sound came from the Charleston Pride were found trying to take down a buffalo. After a long battle including one of the Charlestons male been thrown 2 meters into the air, it seems the buffalo came out on top. The Charlestons were left hot on the heal of the buffalo as he crashes through a thicket on the way to the river. After following up on leopard rasping two male leopards were found fighting around the beautiful sycamore fig tree. Through the chaos it was hard to identify the males but we suspect it might be the West Street male and the River Rocks male. There are exciting times ahead as it seems these males are fighting to take over a portion of Xovonekela's territory.
The Lower Sabie African Wild dog pack were then found on an impala kill along the banks of the Sand river. After feeding on the kill the adults went to call there pups so all 16 dogs could have a cool off in the river itself. Excitement is palpable as it looks like the pack may cross onto Kirkman's Kamp in the afternoon to look for a den.
Towards the end of the morning 3 hyenas were found surrounding a fully grown waterbuck in the river. I'm sure we will head that way this afternoon to see if they managed to take down the big boy.

Guests this morning woke up with a sinking heart as rain drop landed on the roofs of there room. Little did the know the morning that was ahead.早上游客们被雨水敲打房顶的声音吵醒了。
The fourways males were found on our famous island, all soked from the rains the fell earlier on. We then watched them moving further into Kirkmans property then they had ever been before. As usual over the last two weeks the Charleston Pride were found not to far away. This morning we found these two male lions "mating". This act of "mating" is not uncommon amongst animal. It is an act of displaying dominance, but with these boys I think there is a bit of frustration setting in.

Met up with Auntie and the two boys on my recent visit to Kirkman*s Kamp Private Game Reserve (27th Oct 2014). Both the boys looking great. Cannot believe how huge (and magnificent) the boys are.

今天早上在Umkumbe营地遇到了我们喜爱的查尔斯顿男孩，图一左边是大鼻头，右边是小鼻头，感觉小鼻头不但长得越来越霸气，同时体型也赶上哥哥了！
Met up with Auntie and the two boys on my recent visit to Kirkman*s Kamp Private Game Reserve (27th Oct 2014). Both the boys looking great. Cannot believe how huge (and magnificent) the boys are.

Update from yesterday. Looks like it was a fourways males. But good news is it seems his eye might be ok.

Update regarding the Charlestons...
There*s been a slight mix up. It*s actually the larger male that is missing. When Jarryd saw the Charleston boy the other night, it was dark. He did make the photo post (with an older photo because everyone thought it was him) of the larger male...letting us know what is going on.
Yesterday he had the lion beside him on drive & was able to get a better look (in the daytime) & the male he/they have at Kirkman*s is actually the smaller of the two.
I*d really like to thank Jarryd for all his updates to us.

Charlestons were seen this morning together on our property#Umkumbe Safari Lodge, younger male had new wounds on the face particularly around the left eye, and injured left paw/leg and older wounds on right side of face
英文意思：今天早上查尔斯顿兄弟俩在Umkumbe被目击,年轻的那头左眼和左爪/腿有新受伤的伤口，在它的右脸上有旧伤！！！文中的描述符合四路雄狮而不是查尔兄弟
后续的报告证明这个向导的目击有误，最后得到证实当天目击的的确是四路雄狮兄弟

Charleston male update.....Male #1 (the injured one) is at Kirkman's by himself. He looks to be healing up but doesn't look like he's eaten.
A run-down on his condition.... He has bite marks on about 9 different places. Legs back, bum. His hip also looks a little out of place.
Male #2 tracks were seen 2 days ago..going the other way...also on Kirkman's
查尔斯顿男孩的最新消息，大鼻头（受伤的那只）独自一人在Kirkman的领地，它看起来恢复了，但是他看起来好像没有吃东西，它看起来很虚弱，它的身上有九处咬痕，腿后侧，屁股上都是伤痕，它的臀部甚至看起来有些不对称，查尔斯顿小鼻头的踪迹在两天前被看到，同样是在Kirkman，但是确是在另外一条路上！

100% confirmation. Both Charleston males are together. They are on our side at the moment. Male #1 healing very well. But has a serious amount of scaring.
